Myself

Andrew Woodhouse BSc (Hons) Ost
My approach is essentially vitalistic in nature, although I am equally
comfortable using a direct structural approach, as appropriate to the
individual. By that I mean I also use the sort of manipulation (if appropriate),
that we a known for.
Vitalism is the view that life cannot be explained in purely
physical and chemical terms, but can only be represented by a greater, more
holistic view.
Whilst at college I regularly attended a voluntary clinic for
children with Special Needs. Also, having studied Cranio-Sacral & Visceral
(internal organ) osteopathy as part of my degree and at postgraduate levels. I find this
area of particular interest.
Since attaining my honours degree in osteopathy further study has
included the practice of Western Acupuncture &
NAET
(Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques). Other areas of special interest
include the treatment of problems, such as:-
This is, of course, in addition to the usual
musculo-skeletal aches & pains we treat every day. Whether it be a sports
injury, joint & muscle pain of arthritis or the resulting 'whiplash' injury from
a road traffic accident.
Osteopaths treat musculo-skeletal problems
every day, but for the problems listed above a cranial osteopath would be more
appropriate, so do ask first before making an appointment.
I also practice Western Acupuncture (see
foot note), which I find particularly useful in accelerating healing. This I
often use as part of my treatment, but is, of course entirely by choice of the
person being treated.
I am based on the Wirral in the North West UK
and work at practices on the Cheshire and Merseyside ends of the Wirral, as well as one day a week in Liverpool.
See - Practices.
Medical or Western Acupuncture, also known as Dry Needling is
a western adaptation of traditional acupuncture. This is not Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM)! It is used on the basis of modern scientific findings, such as,
reduction in excess muscle tension/spasm, stimulating the release of the body's
natural pain killing hormones (endorphins), etc.
NB I do not use western acupuncture to treat people specifically for
diabetes, weight loss, stopping smoking, etc. For these sorts of problems I
would advise NAET, consult a Traditional
Chinese Medical Acupuncturist or choose from the range of complementary
therapies offered at
Holistic-Centre.org. The
Centre's Weight Loss Page on how there are many holistic / alternative
approaches ways to help lose weight and keep it off by improving general health
& well being.
Problems that I find Western Acupuncture particularly useful for include:-
Neck & back problems, painful conditions in general,
headaches, migraine (with some exceptions), pain in any of the joints &
limbs, fibromyalgia, ME, Chronic Fatigue & Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
See Articles
Page for more on acupuncture.
