Conference in Liverpool hosted by COMPASS

“What therapeutic hope for

a subjective mind in an objectified body?”

Saturday 8th October

Michael Soth - Integrative Body Psychotherapist

10.15am – 2.30pm The Western Rooms Anglican Cathedral Liverpool

With modern neuroscience de-constructing many of our traditional assumptions regarding the body-mind relationship and the therapeutic relationship, there are increasing calls for the body to be (re-)included in psychotherapy. But what does that mean? And what might it look like?
Michael has been working with these questions for more than 20 years, and will present both the pitfalls and the potential for 'working with the body'.

Michael Soth

MICHAEL SOTH is an Integrative Body Psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor (UKCP reg.), living in Oxford, UK. He is Training Director at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy in London and over the last 20 years has been teaching on a variety of training courses, including London City University and Oxford University.
As an Integrative Body Psychotherapist, inheriting concepts, values and ways of working from both psychoanalytic and humanistic traditions, he is interested in the therapeutic relationship as a body/mind process between two people who are both wounded and whole.
As a trainer and supervisor, therefore, he pays particular attention to the therapist’s internal process (i.e. countertransference) from an holistic perspective, attending to the embodied experience in words and the symbolic communication inherent in non-verbal messages. He is developing an extended and holistic notion of 'parallel process' which attempts to include the whole spectrum from vegetative-energetic to emotional to mental/imaginal and inter-personal (i.e. internal and external) relationship dynamics.
Other areas of work include
organisational consultancy, group facilitation, conflict resolution, work with men, as well as a recent project applying Body Psychotherapy to illness, chronic symptoms and psychosomatic disease. Some of his writing and published articles are available at www.soth.co.uk
